I am a teacher who has traveled a lot over the years.
I am thoughtful and love hearing about others' travels.
I am currently moving back to Seattle. I usually use advice from many sources when I travel.
I am a light traveler adn usually got with a few placves and activities in mind.. a yoga retreat center, or a school or a study of language for a week or so...

travelling friend in san francisco?

I'm vacationing out in San Francisco march 16-25th... hoping to find some fun ppl to show me around or tell me about spots to check out!!!!
It will just be me and a backpack, so if you see me wandering about in a teal Osprey, come say hi!! I am friendly, well behaved (sort of) and barely shed!
I also REALLY want to learn to surf, if anyone knows how and feels like teaching me and watching me fall down a lot :)

I'm from San Antonio, TX. Not as dusty and alone as the outer fringes of the state, but I'd still like to get out. I'll be backpacking West, toward Yosemite State park. I'll probably be stopping off in death valley park first. I want to see the Methuselah trees; they're supposed to be thousands of years old, just what I heard. Either way, I'm the type who's far better suited for desert climates. Hot, dry, thirsty, wander, jump, yawn, yell, it's all good. After Cali I'm going to head north to Grants Pass, OR. From there I don't know. I may need a place to stay in NV around Burning Man, if any body's interested, but that's not going to be for a while.
I dunno what else to say. I'm not an axe-murderer or a rapist. I do drink and smoke, but I'm otherwise pretty nice (or so I've been told by people that like me). What do i do? I dunno, I consider myself a writer regardless of the fact that I've never been paid for it. I have a warm, poetic handle of prose that I put to paper when the feeling strikes. Things have just grown stale down here. Maybe I'll find some inspiration out there in Americaland. I have this outdated and fairly naive concept of the American hitchhiker, probably from reading too much Kerouac. I accept the possibility of my death in the same manner that I accept the possibility of later eating sunflower seeds, or perhaps the possibility that I'll step on an ant. I'm no fool though. I can handle myself well enough to know better...
But I digress, I suppose. If anyone out there is interested in traveling around, let me know, we'll talk.

Looks like I am going back to India in a few weeks... I plan to travel for the month of Oct, either around the south or possible spend some time in Varansi. I am interested in going to Auroville, and possible Ramand Marashi's ashram... But I'm flexible.. I am doing a training that starts the first of nov, outside of Bombay, and that is all I know for sure.

I figure it's time that I renew my Iranian passport and go see my 92 year old grandmother, whom I haven't seen in over 10 years. There's no way she can travel anymore and I figure there will never be a perfect time to go there, given the political situation.

Is anyone planning on going next summer or within the year? It's not a trip I would like to make alone.

Tuva Camp 2008

Dear Friends

Thank you for your interest to our music.

Last summer we held a throat singing camp in Tuva.

We had 14 students from around the world - 8 of them were from the US, 2 from Australia
2 from Denmark, 1 from France, 1 from England.
After arriving in Tuva, the students spent 1 week in Kyzyl, the capital city.
They were able to see many tourist attractions, see a Tuvan shaman,
and attend the Naadym - National Harvest Celebration.

The students then went on to spend 1 week in the deep taiga, with members of the Tuvan throat singing group Chirgilchin,
learning various styles of throat singing, traditional Tuvan instruments, as well as the Tuvan language.

This summer, we are trying to get 2 groups to go to Tuva again, in either June or July.

What documents do I need for entering China?
You will at least need a passport valid more than 6 months from the departure date, and a visa. Visa is requigreen for Americans and most other nationalities. For a group of more than 6 people, you can apply for group visas. For traveling to Tibet and other restricted areas, you also need a travel permit.

How can I get a visa to China ?
Visas for leisure travel to China are quite easy to get, usually granted for a one month's stay. You can contact China National Tourist Office in New York or Los Angeles. Your travel agent or visa services can also help you, or it can also be obtained from Chinese embassies or consulates. In the North America, you can contact Chinese Embassies in Washington DC and Ottawa, or the Consulates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, or Chicago, Houston, New York, Vancouver, Toronto.
US citizens can stay in Hong Kong without a visa for up to 30 days. For other passport holders, please inquire with your nearest PRC embassies or consulates.

A tourist visa requires an application form, a passport-size photo and a fee depending on visa types. It takes about seven business days for an application to be processed. For Tibet, the Chinese Embassy must get approval from the Tibet Tourism Administration before issuing a visa.

What kind of visa do I need ?

Asia November - February

I'm going to check out a good chunk of Asia later this year and into next. No fixed itinerary but I plan to visit Thailand, Vietnam, China and Japan. Thinking about Cycling in Guangxi province, China, Snow Trekking in search of winter hot springs in Hokkaido, Japan and doing all of Vietnam from Hanoi to the Mekong delta. Also want to check out Andaman sea in Thailand, Hong Kong & Shanghai in China.

I am looking to do some traveling, maybe rent a farmhouse in the countryside somewhere in Europe. I know it's kind of wide open saying somewhere in europe, but I was leaning towards Spain. I want to just go and dig a garden and rent a place, and take a lot of week long trips to other places, then come back and harvest some veggies. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in accompanying me or having a co-creative vision.

Want to travel in May or September

My friends never seem to have the time or money to take trips when I want to.

I want to take another trip this year and don't want to do it alone. Not that I am scared. I spent a lot of time traveling in Italy alone which was fine. Last fall I went to Prague and Budapest alone. Budapest was fine. Prague I found very lonely as the people were just not that friendly. Hungarians were a bit more friendly and open.

I like doing things on my own. But it would be nice to find someone to have dinner with or go to a club together. I would be fine doing my own thing a lot of the time but I don't really enjoy going out at night by myself as a women. It really depends on the country you are in. But last fall I kept hearing "Why are you traveling alone?" Funny the difference in response you get as women traveling alone. I even heard this from men who were themselves on their own.

This year I either want to go Argentina, Spain or Costa Rica. I am open to other European countries but these are my preference.

Just seeing if anyone out there may want to plan a trip together. Ideally someone I have a little in common with. We can talk about interests. I just found Prague terribly lonely and don't want to go through that again. But as I said, I was fine in Budapest. I can take care of myself, am adventurous and totally open to new people and experiences.

Trying to get to Italy/Europe

Hello fellow frugal flyers. I'm in Birmingham, AL, trying to get to Italy within about a month but will settle for Zurich or Munich, et al, and then head down to Italy via train. There have been several great websites posted for inexpensive flights, but they were all Europe-originating (As far as I could tell).

I'm looking for some other means of getting there by say, late May-early June for under $1000 (700-850 would be great) from either B'ham or Atlanta. ATL is a Delta hub, so that's nice.

A travel friend in May/June to Italy and possibly Croatia

So since none of my friends seem to have the time or resources, I'm looking for a buddy to join me in Europe in May or maybe June for about 2 to 3 weeks. I am leaning toward Italy (Northern with a possible sojourn to Dubrovnik/Split), perhaps Prague/Budapest as an alternative.

I am a very independant and self-sufficient person, but I think it would just be more fun to have someone else along for the experience. This isn't going to be a luxurious trip, but I'm also not going to be straight up back-packing/doing the youth hostel thing...somewhere in the Golden Middle!

I'm spontaneous, love adventures, easy-going, find travelling to be magical...probably feel the same way about it many of you do! I want to do it all, take in the culture, food, go out at night, do lots of wandering through city streets, and see what else happens. I guess I am open to travelling with either a woman or man (or maybe even a small group?), although I really am looking strictly for a travel buddy so this might be easier if you're female or gay (not that I'm overwhelmingly irresistible, but you know what I mean)

Traveling ARIZONA to NEW YORK- NEED HELP

hey im leaving in mid june to travel to ny..im headed an hr and a half north west of the city but am very flexable on where you might need to go. i'm looking for someone who can help me out with the driving a little (i drive a stick) and also with the cost of gas. ill also be traveling with my dog so hopefully you're pet friendly. hope to hear back soon. this will be my 5th time driving cross country and im just looking for a person or two to keoo it interesting. looking for something fun and different. i dont have a really long time to take to drive. i was sorta hoping to do it in like 4 days or so. let me know if you're interested.

I was about to leave to head back across country to berkley again when my travel companions changed their plans. so now im forced to make a decision.. take a plane? hitchhike? just start walking? maybe go down to florida to the rainbow gathering this month... maybe i should finally go to india.
anything i choose i'd like to have a buddy to go with... and we could see what plans (or non-plans) we come up with!
if youre interested, im a 19 yr old spiritually awakened female, respectful and tons of fun! i have some bucks but i dont have a car. i like to stay minimal with spending anyway, meaning camping and getting free food whenever possible and such

Need travel friends

In mid may I would like to go to northern Arizona, southern Utah to check out the tarantula migration and if possible go to a bunch of lakes around there to swim, cliff dive, skip rocks. If anyone’s interested please let me know it would be nice to have a group of people.

trekking in Bolivia

I'm trying to plan a trip to Bolivia do some of the world's best trekking from late June until mid-July....those times are not set in stone. As a woman, I'd rather not travel alone to South America. But I don't want to do one of these expensive, over-priced pre-arranged adventure tours either...I'd much rather give money to local trekking guides and the local community. Does anyone have any experience with this area? Anyone interested in going?

I'm looking to do some camping&hiking anyone want to join me? I have a few places in mind most I have not been to so I'm just winging it. I am interseted in visiting the bristlecone pine forest on the east side of the sierras, the tahoe rim possibly, may drive through Yosemite but probably will be scared off by the crowds but I love Tioga pass!
